SWIFT recognises the value of subject specific training and is offering subject masterclasses for secondary teachers, with key notes and delivery by experts in their field. The course is 6 sessions long and runs as twilight sessions after school. All of the sessions are being facilitated by Adam Boxer, Head of Science at a North London Academy, co-founder of Carousel Learning and author of Secondary Science: A complete guide
Each session shows the role and practice of a knowledge-rich curriculum
Session 1- Monday 28th November 3.30-5pm | Modelling in Science
Session 2- Monday 16th January 3.30-5pm |Checking for understanding
Session 3- Monday 13th January 3.30-5pm |Retrieval practice & strategies for long term learning and memory in Science
Session 4- Monday 27th February 3.30-5pm | Assessment *
Session 5- Monday 24th April 3.30-5pm | Curriculum design
Session 6 – Monday 19th June 3.30-5pm | Marking in Science/Whole class feedback in Science
Whilst there will be an element of reflection and teachers will benefit from attending the programme as a whole, each session will also be stand alone, allowing teachers to dip into the programme at various points. Each session will be recorded and therefore teachers who are unable to attend will still have access to the materials which can be shared back in school.
If a school pays for the whole programme, any teacher from the school can attend the sessions and it does not have to be the same member of staff each time. This will allow schools to prioritise areas of development for different staff and/or tie in with appraisal targets.
* Please note that the session on Assessment is aimed at Heads/deputy heads of department or those aspiring to this role.

Being part of a Connected Heads group is designed to help you navigate through any school leadership challenge using the collective intelligence of others.
Overview
Connected Heads is a group of between 4 and 6 school leaders, who meet regularly to support one another and to take purposeful action on current work issues. There’s a reason the old adage ‘two Heads are better than one’ has been around for centuries because more effective problem solving happens when you combine resources in talent, experience, knowledge and passion.
Connected Heads uses an Action Learning Set model which provides the opportunity for colleagues to collaborate and reflect on real challenges. The process is led by a facilitator, who enables the group to connect, ask searching questions and support the learning process with guidance and useful models and tools. In a Connected Heads group we do things differently, the learning shared is agenda free, trustworthy and confidential. The group creates its own innovative thinking space.
Key Themes
The group focuses on real work goals or challenges.
Common themes for the group are strategic thinking, managing stress & well-being, dealing with challenge, navigating change and teaching and learning development. The group provides a confidential and non-judgmental space to off-load challenges, discover solutions and develop leadership qualities.
There is a strength and depth in learning from listening your own and others’ experiences and reflections.
Programme Lead
Leonie Hurrell is an Educational enthusiast. At 24 Leonie became the youngest Deputy Headteacher in Dorset and went on to be a Headteacher for 8 years, before becoming an ILM Certified Leadership Coach. Leonie is
passionate about learning and people development. Founder of The Thinking Academy, a company that provides coaching and ILM approved training solutions for schools. She is also a School Evaluation Partner for Dorset and a co-opted Governor for an Infant School in Hampshire.
