Agenda
2:30-2:40pm: Welcome and Digital Housekeeping | Tonicha Davies |
Welcome from Tonicha Davies, SWIFT Secondary Science Professional Community Leader. Audio and Visual checks and please say “hello” and give your school name in the chat box.
2:40-3:20pm: Metacogntion in Science| Nik Rorke | Science Learning Partnership
Metacognition is a term used by teachers and many use metacognitive strategies in their teaching. But are these strategies being used effectively? Nik will discuss some of the background and misconceptions around metacognition and share strategies that can be used to foster metacognition in the classroom. She will also invite contributions from delegates so please come prepared to share your ideas.
3:20-3:45pm Whole class feedback| Sam Wilson | Uffculme School
Sam will share a review of the principles of whole class feedback and share strategies which both he and his department have been using at Uffculme School to ensure feedback is effective, facilitates student improvement and reduces the workload of busy teachers. We would love delegates to share any examples of whole class feedback that they have used as part of this session and examples will be collated at the end and distributed to all professional community members.
Nik Rourke will provide an update on opportunities within the Science Learning Partnership. This will be followed by a needs analysis with Tonicha for next year’s events.
